Painted from the model with much studio time following, I was pleased with the force of colour work and entered this into a major portrait competition with a $20,000 prize and was delighted to proceed through several levels to become a finalist. I felt a warm delight when I saw the painting in such company. With the painting I tried to show the “presence” James projects and that his job is rather lonely and insecure (despite his bluff).
The Royal South Australian Society of Art then asked me to do a demonstration painting of a celebrity and that went pretty well.
