Award Winning Paintings, by Jane

It is always nice to see so many VAA students winning prizes for their work and getting recognition. Congratulations to Jane this month for not only one, but two prizes! Both are very nice pieces of work. The first has an interesting composition with lively brushwork and well painted gestural people. And the second has a beautiful feeling of light. Well done Jane!

“This month I entered two local plein air events — my first ever — and have successes to report from both of them!!! First, I entered a one-day event at the Florida State Fair, and my painting “Midway Morning” won honorable mention.

A few days later, I participated in a weeklong event sponsored by a plein air organization about an hour south of where I live. I only made it down there to paint on two days, and I was allowed to enter one painting in the show. I chose this one:

And it won FIRST PLACE!! And sold even before they announced the awards.

I started this painting with a few notan sketches, really trying to simplify the dark and light areas.
