Watercolor Painting Techniques

The Virtual Art Academy courses include all the important watercolor painting techniques you need to use watercolor paints. The basic painting technique is very similar to the oil and acrylic painting technique, with the exception of the order in which you paint the lights and darks. In oils and acrylics you paint the darks first and go over them with the lights. In watercolors you paint the lights first then go over them with darks. This technical aspect is covered in the Process series of course units.

Click on one of the watercolor painting techniques below for a brief definition and to find out which Virtual Art Academy course will teach you about that specific watercolor painting technique.
