itness

The essential visual characteristics of an object - what makes it recognizable. the character of something or some category of objects. For example, cypress trees have a different ‘itness’ from pine trees. The growth patters and foliage shapes are different in each case. It is these patterns and shapes that give each species its character or ‘itness’.
