This course deals mainly with the topic of composition and in particular space division. How you divide the space up in your picture is critical to a successful composition, and is probably the single most important topic after notan for a beginner to learn. Once you have mastered the process of dividing space up in your paintings, they will look much more interesting.
In this course you will learn:
- how to apply principles of composition without restricting your creativity
- the importance of compositional studies
- how to build and use a viewfinder to help you identify interesting compositions
- the important technique of cropping your subject to find interesting arrangements
of shapes, and how to crop effectively
- three common problems beginners make when cropping compositions
- the importance of simplifying shapes and how to do it, with examples of
what to do and what to avoid
- the problem of tangents and how to avoid it
- how to think about space division in your paintings and what to avoid
