This course is the starting point for learning color. It focuses on developing
your ability to learn how to see color. This is a critical skill you need to
have in order to make your work look realistic.
In this course you will learn:
- the difference between local color and actual color
- the three critical aspects of color: value, saturation, and hue
- the four most commonly used value scales you can make to help you learn
more about values
- the concept of temperature and how to apply it
- a useful notatation system for your sketchbook: the Munsell color notation
system
- how to measure values
- some common reference points in nature to help check your assessment of
values
- a sketchbook technique for helping you learn values quickly
- the concept of saturation (chroma, intensity), and how it is different
from value
- an introduction to your color pigments
- a two-step process for mixing color
- three ways of adjusting the saturation of your colors
