You
can only paint as well as you can draw. Painting loose is not the same as painting
sloppily - in fact the looser you want to paint, the better you need to learn how to draw so you can draw the shapes more accurately.
I have read a lot of drawing books and have taken many drawing classes over
the years. However there are some very important things I never knew about
until years after I started to learn how to draw – techniques that
I wish I had known earlier. The problem is that experienced artists do a lot
of things in their heads when they draw – you cannot actually see them doing
it. Since you cannot see them doing these things, you may never learn how to draw just by watching.
For
example I never learned about the technique of triangulation for a long time,
and it is absolutely critical to do this all the time if you want to learn how to draw accurately.
Another thing that took me a long time to figure out was learning how to draw archways
accurately. I had seen a lot of techniques over the years, but they only confused
me, until I found the particular method I describe in these courses. After
that it was easy! In these courses I cover all the techniques of perspective that you actually need for painting and explain them in simple terms so you can understand this difficult topic more easily.
There
are a lot of different techniques for learning drawing – gesture, contour, envelopes,
scribble line, mass, and so on. But with all these techniques to choose from,
where do you start to learn how to draw? how do you decide which technique to choose? In these drawing
courses I will explain to you all the individual techniques, then help you put
it all together to take away the confusion and help you learn how to draw better. Again, this was something
that took me a long time to discover.
- triangulation – a critical technique for learning how to draw more accurately
- angular transfer – a quick and easy way to learn how to draw in perspective
- envelopes – how to draw complex shapes
- scribble lines and mass gesture – learn how to start a drawing
- contour drawing – and when it is best to do it
- measurement – the best techniques to use to check your drawing
- perspective – learn the basics of how to draw in perspective, and some more advanced techniques for those special
occasions when you need them
